Stevia Extract
$225.00
Stevia Extract is a high-intensity, zero-calorie natural sweetener derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant, native to South America. It is extracted by steeping dried leaves in hot water, followed by a multi-step purification process to isolate the sweet-tasting compounds called steviol glycosides. The primary and most studied glycosides are Stevioside and Rebaudioside A. Stevia extract is exceptionally stable, maintaining its sweetness and chemical structure across varying temperature and pH ranges, unlike some synthetic sweeteners.
Storage Recommendations
Temperature: Store in a cool, dry place. Stevia powder is very stable but should ideally be kept at ambient temperatures (between 15°C and 25°C) to prevent potential caking over time.
Packaging: Keep in tightly sealed, moisture-proof containers. High-quality paper bags with a plastic liner, multi-wall bags, or plastic drums are standard industrial packaging.
Shelf Life: Stable for 3 years from the date of manufacture when stored in original, unopened packaging, protected from high humidity and direct light.
Hygiene: Maintain a sanitary environment during handling, as the high concentration of glycosides can attract pests if residual powder is left exposed.
Safety Note: Stevia extract (specifically purified steviol glycosides) is widely recognized as safe (GRAS) by global regulatory bodies, including the FDA, EFSA, and JECFA, for use as a sweetener. The raw concentrate in powder form can be dusty; avoid excessive inhalation during bulk handling.
Food & Beverage:
Carbonated & Non-Carbonated Drinks: The dominant application. It is used to reduce or eliminate sugar content in sodas, teas, flavored waters, juices, and sports drinks.
Tabletop Sweeteners: Sold in powder or liquid form for individual consumer use in beverages and baking.
Confectionery & Bakery: Used in sugar-free candies, gums, chocolates, and baked goods, often requiring blending with bulking agents (like erythritol) to replicate sugar's texture and volume.
Dairy Products: Incorporated into reduced-sugar yogurts, ice creams, and flavored milks.
Personal Care:
Oral Hygiene: Frequently used in toothpastes, mouthwashes, and breath sprays because it is non-fermentable and does not contribute to tooth decay.
Cosmetics: Sometimes added as a flavoring or sweetening agent in lip balms, lipsticks, and other edible cosmetic products.
Pharmaceuticals:
Medication Flavoring: Utilized as a natural sweetening agent to mask the bitterness of active ingredients in syrups, chewable tablets, and powdered formulations.
