Key Features: White to off-white crystalline powder, strong reducing agent, characteristic sulfur dioxide odor, soluble in water, acidic (pH ~4.0-5.0 in solution).

Main Applications by Industry:

Water Treatment: For dechlorination (removing residual chlorine from wastewater and tap water), as an oxygen scavenger in boiler feed water, and for heavy metal reduction.

Textile Industry: As a reducing agent for vat dyes and sulfur dyes, and for removal of excess dye from printed or dyed fabrics.

Food Industry: As a preservative, antioxidant, and anti-browning agent for dried fruits, vegetables, wines, and fruit juices. Also used in sugar refining.

Pulp & Paper: For bleaching wood pulp, preserving pulp stock, and as an anti-chlorine agent during paper production.

Photography: As a preservative in photographic developers and for stop bath formulations.

Chemical Synthesis: As a reducing agent in the production of various organic and inorganic chemicals, and as a sulfonating agent.

Leather Industry: For tanning processes and as a dehairing agent in hide processing.

Mining: As a depressant in the flotation separation of minerals (e.g., separating lead from zinc ores).
